Fort Rock Oregon Outback

Fort Rock

“Oregon Outback” land with a natural ruggedness

Start your adventure to the Oregon Outback a short 25 mile, 1/2 hour drive from Newberry Country, heading East on Hwy#31.

Lake County encompasses a vast area of high desert at the edge of the Great Basin. The Northern end of the county (often referred to as North Lake) is home to the communities of Christmas Valley, Fort Rock, Silver Lake, Summer Lake and the small incorporated town of Paisley. It is a land of diversity and contrasts: mountains, plains, dunes, marshes, and volcanic flows.

The area offers something for everyone: Hiking, Mt. Biking, Hunting and Fishing, Golfing and a host of fascinating geological sites. Some main points of interest are: Fort Rock, Hole-in-the Ground, Crack-in-the-Ground, and Summer Lake Wildlife Area.
